The exclusions of Ozempic and Mounjaro follow the program's logic: it covers weight-loss use, and those two products are approved for type 2 diabetes rather than chronic weight management. Their weight-management counterparts, Wegovy and Zepbound, are the ones included.

The Comorbidity Catch
This is the part that surprises people. If you have a diagnosis such as type 2 diabetes, heart disease, sleep apnea or liver disease that would make a GLP-1 coverable under your existing Part D plan, you are not eligible for the Bridge Program. The program is designed to fill a gap, not to replace coverage you already have. If you fall into that group, your route is your existing Part D benefit, which may well cost you less than $50 a month anyway.
That structure means the Bridge Program is aimed squarely at Part D members whose obesity is not accompanied by one of the qualifying comorbidities, a group that historically had no coverage pathway at all.

Prior Authorization
Prior authorization is required for first fills and for medication switches, but not for dose adjustments. That last point matters more than it sounds: GLP-1 treatment involves stepping up through several doses, and needing a fresh authorization at every step would make the program unusable in practice. Titrating within the same medication does not trigger a new prior authorization.

What Happens When It Ends
The program is explicitly temporary, running through 31 December 2027. Amazon's published materials do not say what happens to participants afterwards. That is a real planning consideration: GLP-1 treatment for chronic weight management is generally long-term, and weight regain after stopping is well documented.

Only 28-day or 30-day fills are covered. If you are used to 90-day supplies, this means twelve pharmacy interactions a year rather than four.
Pen needles excluded

You Still Need a Prescriber
The Bridge Program is a pharmacy benefit, not a clinical service. You need a provider willing to prescribe a GLP-1 for weight loss.
